To the Lane County Sheriff 11/11 re: measure 112

The Lane & Jackson county sheriff’s office came out and said they won’t be enforcing the new gun safety bill that passed that limits guns to 10 rounds, have a Federal background check, and something else. This is my response to people who support those officers:

If he police don’t enforce this law, will women seeking abortions also get that benefit? Because, apparently, lawbreaking is subjective now. We only have to follow the rules if we agree to them? How does this law actually affect people? I mean, it might be dumb, impossible to enforce, and be annoying when one goes hunting or to target practice, but in the end – truly – who is getting harmed by this law? Women are being actively affected and traumatized physically and mentally because Roe v. Wade was overturned. People could actually die because of a few judge’s personal disagreement with the law.

I am more middle ground, I like my guns but also think there are changes that could be made to better prevent school shootings. Do I think this measure is that answer? No. It’s a silly attempt at pandering to the left. I absolutely agree. Changing the constitution is a slippery slope, but I believe the overturning of RVW is also a majorly slippery slope. I don’t have any answers to these huge conundrums, but I think we should be able to trust the officers of the law to enforce the law regardless of their personal opinions. They have a job to do, and it should stay that simple. Of course, they had no intention of enforcing the law in most areas of Oregon, but they don’t have to say that publicly

I honor every individual’s path. Mine was different than most. I had to have an abortion. The baby was conceived while the father was on chemotherapy and the baby would never have formed properly and I could have died. It was an awful, agonizing decision and a traumatizing experience. He left me a few days after it happened and I went through a hemorrhage and healed/mourned all alone. He took every single thing that wasn’t my daughter’s. It was horrendous. I couldn’t fathom not having that choice simply because a few old dudes disagree with my decision. I live with that choice every day, but I’m living and I may not be if it weren’t for those 2 pills. So, I think cherry picking which laws officers & judges & lawmakers vibe with and which they don’t is a recipe for anarchy. Law and order cannot be maintained if the laws we vote in are ignored.

So, I ask, when is it ok to ignore the laws that are in place to protect us? And, how will we know which laws will be enforced & which will be ignored? If our children hear that the cops aren’t following the laws that save lives of the people they’ve sworn to protect, what are they learning? Distrust of those in Blue, not to listen to authority figures, and that laws are frivolous and really hold no meaning.
I mean my opinion in a neutral, truly curious way. I’m not sure I agree with that particular bill, I didn’t vote for it, but I do happen to take issue with the sheriff’s response to the law passing. They should be non partisan and not whiny cry babies throwing a tantrum because they didn’t get their way & now have to reload more often. 🙄 I mean, on the grand scheme of life, there are definitely bigger things for them to concern themselves with. I just find them petty, petulant and whiny. 🤷‍♀️ I come in peace, promise. ✌🏻💜
